University encourages alumni to return for homecoming weekend
George Fox University's homecoming is set for Friday and Saturday and include a variety of events, including a football game, a Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony, reunions and more.
Friday will be packed with events to celebrate alumni: a concert at 7:30 p.m. and reunions of classes of 1998 and 2008. A Classic Bruins Supper will take place at 5 p.m., involving alumni from 1968 and earlier. Reunions will be held for them as well. Saturday also has a full line-up, starting with an Alumni of Color Networking Reception at 9 a.m. Tours of campus and the new Hadlock Student Center will also be given throughout the day. There will also be an alumni baseball scrimmage at 11 a.m. and the Sports Hall of Fame reception is set for 11:45 a.m. in the Edwards-Holman Science Center.The Sports Hall of Fame will recognize 2018 inductees Phaydra (Newport) Brown (cross country, class of 1994), Katy Campbell (women's basketball, class of 2008), Ben Dillow (track and field, class of 2007), Mike Livingston (football, class of 1967), Joel Krebs (track and field, class of 2008), Ralph Beebe (men's basketball coach), the 1995 men's soccer team, and Brad and Katharine Stoffer (meritorious). A new alumni plaza, located between Bauman Auditorium and Stoffer Family Stadium, will be unveiled at 11:30 a.m. Saturday. The plaza is dedicated to honoring the legacy of George Fox alumni. Included in the space will be a 10-foot bronze grizzly bear as a way to celebrate school spirit.Following the reveal of the plaza will be a tailgate party from noon to 1:15 p.m. in the Bauman Auditorium parking lot in order to prepare for the football game against Whitworth University at 1:30 p.m. Complimentary t-shirts will be given to alumni who stop by the alumni tent before kickoff, which in turn gives them and their families free admission to the game. Closing the homecoming weekend will be a men's soccer game against Pacific University at noon.
