Doug Cain is the new executive director of Providence Health & Services in Newberg

The fundraising component of Providence Newberg Medical Center has a new leader, it was recently announced.

Doug Cain was named executive director of the Providence Health & Services, taking the place of Diana Fisher, who after nine years at the post has accepted a leadership role at the Providence Children's Health Foundation. Cain assumed the position on Oct. 28.SUBMITTED PHOTO - Doug Cain was recently named executive director of Providence Health services.

"The Providence mission and core values are at the heart of what I believe in," Cain said in a prepared statement. "I'm honored to be able to bring this passion to Newberg and I am excited to be part of a community that is so supportive of its hospital."

Prior to his recent reassignment, Cain served since 2014 as a major gifts officer for Providence Foundations in Oregon, where his job was to secure bequests and coordinate the Providence Grateful Patient program. Prior to hiring on at Providence he was associate director of development for the Salvation Army in Happy Valley.

His bonafides suit him well for the new position, a Providence luminary commented.

"Doug's experience as a fundraising leader, coupled with this enthusiasm, dedication and energy, are great additions to Newberg," said Kelly Buechler, interim chief philanthropy officer for Providence in Oregon. "This position is a perfect fit for Doug as he wants to play a key role in growing the foundation and becoming an active member of the community."

Prior to taking the position, Cain said he was looking forward to continuing his work with Providence at a hospital that has become well known in the area for its commitment to patient care, with an active foundation board.

"I'm eager to get to know the community, develop relationships and generate enthusiasm and support so that the hospital continues to provide state-of-the-art facilities, equipment and services," he said.

Cain isn't too far from his original homeland, having grown up in Portland. He earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Azusa Pacific University in California and resides in Wilsonville with his wife and two children.
