It is with great sadness that the family of Frank Nudo announces his peaceful passing on Nov. 11, 2017 at the age of 83. Frank was born to his parents, Elizabeth and Frank Nudo in Stanfield, OR. After his father's death his mother and eight children moved to Portland, OR to S.E. Division St and 31st. He attended Hosford Grade School and graduated from Cleveland High School. He enlisted in the US Army and was stationed at Fort ORD, California in 1954. After his honorable discharge in 1957, he went to work bartending for the previous owners of Nick Famous Coney Island, Nick & Florence Carlascio. In 1959, they decided to retire and sold Nick's to Frank. That was the beginning of owning Nick Famous Coney Island for 48 years. He married Katy O'Rourke after buying Nick's and from that union, they had one son, Danny Nudo, who died in a traffic accident 7 years ago. He was a huge baseball fan. His favorite team was the New York Yankee's. He also was a big Oregon Duck fan! Frank had a larger than life personality and was such a fixture on Hawthorne Blvd.
Frank loved his music. Frank Sinatra and Neil Diamond were his favorites along with old time country western singers like Johnny Cash; also watching classic movies from the past. Frank was the youngest of a large Italian family. His parents were immigrants from Calabria, Italy. Four brothers and three sisters all have preceded him in death. He is survived by his sister Gena Cummings, daughter-in-law Kelly Nudo and two grandchildren, Emma Nudo age 14, Morgan Nudo age 10, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
His ashes will be scattered as he wished.
A Memorial Service was held Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Holman's Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations are encouraged for Meals on Wheels.
