Sandra was born in Pittsburg, Kansas to Elmer Leroy and Madelynn Pugh on September 2, 1942 where she was raised and educated until her high school years when the family moved to Southern California. There she finished her education at Bell High School where she met her first husband, Bruce Bankhead Sr. They married in 1959 and had three children. They later divorced in 1966 and remained friends until his passing. Sandra moved to Oregon and met the love of her life Manford Simpson. They were married in 1971, raising their family in Scholls, Oregon on a family farm. After their children were raised, they moved to Sandy, Oregon in 1984.

Sandra was a member of the Sandy Assembly of God. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family, quilting, sewing, gardening and canning where she won several awards at the county and state fairs. She loved music and had a voice like an angel. She was a pianist who could play music by ear.

Sandra was preceded in death by her husband; her oldest son, Bruce Bankhead Jr.; granddaughter, Kristin Bankhead; and great grandson, Ace Bankhead. She is survived by her son, Brian Bankhead of Portland; daughter, Brenda Lynn Hankins of Sandy; grandsons, Bruce Bankhead III (Jennifer), Brandon Bankhead, Brice Bankhead-Baltazer (Adrey), Brent Bankhead, and Austin Rimer; granddaughter, Robeca Bankhead; great grandsons, AJ, Henry, Brody, and Nathaniel; and great granddaughters, Madison and Ellington; and sister, Romona Speed.

Sandra's greatest joy was being a grandmother and great grandma. She was an absolutely amazing woman and deeply loved by her family.
