SUBMITTED PHOTO - Joe GattoJoe Gatto a resident of Charbonneau passed away peacefully on December 4 2017. He was born in Portland, Oregon to Peter Gatto and Elynor Colistro. He graduated from Cleveland High and after high school signed on to play semi pro baseball.

He then went to the University of Portland and graduated from Portland State University. In 1963 he married Marilyn Gilpin. He spent most of his life in the produce business eventually co-owning Gatto and Sons Produce with his cousin Augie Gatto. Joe loved carrying on his Italian heritage with his large extended family and friends.

He belonged to Riverside, Columbia, Crosswater and Tualatin Golf Clubs and enjoyed many years of golf. Joe was active in the Cleveland Alumni Association and PIL Hall of Fame. He was inducted into the Cleveland H.S. Hall of Fame in 2002 and the PIL Hall of Fame in 2009.

Joe was a passionate Yankee fan and loved watching all games. Due to Joes loving and humble personality he made lifelong friends wherever he went.

Joe was not only an exceptional father to Pete, Ellie and Mike, but extended his love and support to so many. Joe is survived by his wife Marilyn of 54 years; his children Pete (Kristen) Gatto, Ellie (Guy) Combs and Mike (Jennifer) Gatto; and his grandchildren, Joelle, Alyson, Brooke and Joseph. He was preceded by his son Joseph; his parents, Peter and Elynor Gatto; sister, Rosalie Comella; and grandson Nicholas.

A service will be held at St. Philip Neri, 2408 SE 16th Ave., Portland, 97214 on December 15th at 2:00pm. In honor of Joe the family suggests donations to Doernbechers Children's Hospital.
