Norman Louie Arthur Bartel was born on February 6, 1935 in Chinook, Montana and died on February 22, 2018. As a child he moved around the mid-west before moving permanently to Oregon. He graduated from Salem Academy High School and Oregon College of Education with a teaching degree.

He married his college sweetheart, Judith Ann Jeffries, on December 27, 1958. They moved to Drain, Oregon where he taught high school and coached basketball and football. He also ran the swimming pool during the summers.

In 1962, Norm and Judy welcomed their first born, Deb, and in 1964, son Tom was born. Shortly thereafter, in 1965, the family moved to Oregon City where daughter Sandy was born.

Norm taught Social Studies and English at Gardiner Jr. High in Oregon City. He was also the Athletic Director, which meant he never missed watching his kids play whatever ball was in season. He retired in 1988 and they moved to Vancouver, Washington to live on a golf course. He played almost every day, even after moving to Hillsboro, he played 3-4 times a week. He was a lifetime member of the Oregon City Elks, including a year as Exalted Ruler.

In 2006, Norm and Judy moved back to Vancouver, Washington. A year later, Judy passed away. In 2010, Norm moved to Stafford Retirement Living in Lake Oswego where he lived until his passing. He enjoyed living close to family, with visits from his kids, grandkids, and grand-dogs often.

Norm was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Judy. He is survived by his daughter, Deb Bartel of Woodburn; son and favorite daughter-in-law, Tom and Dawn Bartel of Lake Oswego; daughter, Sandy Bartel of Milwaukie; sister Nancy Willwert (Denny) of Hillsboro; and the best ever grandkids: Brynna Ducasse (Guy) of South Africa; Micah (Ally) Bartel of Wilsonville; Mady Bartel, Ella Bartel, and Mother Hens Emma Bartel and Lily Bartel, all of Lake Oswego.

A Celebration of Life Pie Fest will be held on Saturday, June 23 at the Pioneer Community Center from 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. 615 5th St, Oregon City, OR 97045.
