June 14, 1934 - April 9, 2018 John Joseph Warner was born in Goodland, Kansas to Ethel and Edward Warner.

The family moved to Tigard, Oregon in the late '30s, where younger sister Marilyn was born. John's early interest in horticulture was encouraged by neighbor Carol Young who taught him about growing annuals in her backyard green house.

John attended St. Anthony Grade School, Tigard High School and graduated from OSU in Landscape Architecture, with graduate studies at the University of Oregon. He was awarded a Fellowship at Dumbarton Oaks through Harvard University.

John was a registered Landscape Architect in Oregon and Kentucky, and was a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects, the Urban Landscape Institute and the University Club of Portland.

John had an extensive portfolio of public and private projects in the Northwest and most recently in New Jersey. John's work received an Associated Landscape Contractors of America Environmental Improvement Merit Award for the George Lind Residence, an ASLA Oregon Chapter Honor Award for the Washington Park Zoo Master Plan, an Honor Award for Cathedral Park, a Progressive Architecture Citation for the Washington Park Zoo Master Plan and design recognition for the Jewish Holocaust Memorial at Washington Park.

John also served on the Oregon Roadside Council, the Portland Landmarks Commission, the Portland Urban Forestry Commission and the Portland Heritage Tree Committee.

John married Ann Gardner in 1982. They later divorced but remained good friends until his death. John is survived by his sister and brother-in-law Marilyn and Marv Schlabs, and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He is predeceased by his parents, Edward and Ethel Warner; brother, Paul and his wife, Lenore; and brother, Bernard and his wife, Helen; and stepdaughter, Hawthorne Hunt.
