May 4, 1927 - March 22, 2018: Richard was active in local improvement groups including the Traffic Safety Commission in Newberg, and the By Pass committee.

Richard E. Meyer of Newberg died March 22, 2018. He was born May 4, 1927 in Scotch Plains, NJ and graduated from Scotch Plains High School in 1944. He had three brothers and a sister in military service. He worked on a farm in Branchburg, NJ. He joined the Army in 1946 as part of occupation troops in Japan until 1948. After service he returned to the farm.

He married Gloria T. Bellingrath from Scotch Plains on September 10, 1949. In 1954 they moved to their own farm in Two Taverns, PA. They had three children: Thomas, Timothy, and Lauren. In 1966, having sold the farm, they decided to go west. He moved to Newberg, OR where he lived the rest of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sister. His wife Gloria died on May 7, 2003. He is survived by his sons Thomas and Timothy, and daughter in law Carol, daughter Lauren, son in law James and grandson Conrad.

He was a Scoutmaster in PA, and appointed a lifetime member of Chehalem Valley Chamber of Commerce. He was active in local improvement groups including the Traffic Safety Commission in Newberg, and the By Pass committee. Miracles happen. He got to drive on the bypass, which took 40 years to build. He was also active at the Chehalem Adult Enrichment Center where he called bingo and on other committees.

A Memorial service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church on Saturday, May 5 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or the Chehalem Adult Enrichment Center. Services are entrusted to Attrell's Newberg Funeral Chapel, www.attrells.com.
