John R. Rosebrook, age 87 of Beavercreek, Ore. died July 4, 2019 of natural causes. John was born in 1931 in Prairie City, Oregon, into a farming and ranching family. His childhood was spent on several ranches in Central Oregon. Following graduation from high school, he entered the U.S. Air Force where he served four years as an electrician during the Korean conflict. With his G.I. Bill, he entered Oregon State College, graduating with a degree in business.
He became a meat inspector for the State of Oregon, worked for several meat companies and owned the Beavercreek Meat Company in Portland until 1980 when he retired. Until recently, he continued to operate a successful cattle operation in Beavercreek.
In 1972 he was appointed to the Clackamas County Fair Board where he was instrumental in developing the fair's livestock events, including the Junior Livestock Auction. He was also instrumental in establishing stable funding for the fair and replacing the amateur rodeo with a professional one. In 1988 the Rosebrook Arena was built and named in his honor for his many contributions. John served 21 years on the Fair Board and was elected chairman four times by fellow board members during his tenure.
He is survived by his wife, Bernalou and three brothers and their families. A memorial BBQ is planned in his honor at the Canby Fairgrounds on Sunday, August 4, 2019 at 1:00pm. Arrangements entrusted to Hillside Chapel.
