Janet Lofquist York 83, of Florence, Oregon passed away Monday, July 22, 2019. Jan was born June 29, 1936 in a house near the town of Upsala, Minnesota to Olaf and Hilma Lofquist. Jan never knew her father Olaf as he was killed in the line of duty as a Game Enforcement Officer for the State of Minnesota.
Jan was raised by her mother and five older sisters, Carole, Norma, Marilyn, Verna and Joan.
After graduating high school she attended St. Cloud State College where she earned a Bachelors' of Science in Education. Jan had a passion for teaching that took her all over the United States, while teaching in Albuquerque, New Mexico, she met her future husband Dale York. They were married October 30, 1964. From there Jan and Dale moved back to Minnesota for a short time before arriving with their first son to their permanent home near Portland, Oregon. A year later their second son was born. She taught school in Portland, worked for the State of Oregon Employment Division and finished her career with the Clackamas County Corrections Department before retiring in 1998. Jan spent her retirement years traveling and being with her family.
Jan and Dale were married for 52 years until his death in September 2016. Her world revolved around her two sons Charlie (Wendy) and Peter (Allison) and her grandchildren Tanner, Bevan, Makenzie and Logan.
She had an uncanny ability to reach people even when she could no longer use her words. She was a loving and caring person, devoted mother, Grandmother and friend, "to know her was to love her."
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, August 9, 2019 at Macksburg Lutheran Church, 10210 S. Macksburg Road, Canby, Oregon.
