Jim and his wife of 68 years, Eileen, lived in Canby, Oregon for more than 23 years. They moved to a senior living facility in June 2019, and he passed away in his new home on July 30, 2019.
Jim served bravely during World War II as a Sergeant in the Army Air Corps, completing 35 missions in the European Theater. In the final years of his life, he was celebrated for his accomplishments in service to his country, appearing in parades, speaking engagements and on television to support and raise money to recognize retired veterans. After the war, he started a career in plumbing, spending the latter half of his years supervising new and remodel work in high tech manufacturing facilities including Tektronix in Beaverton, Oregon. He retired after working more than 40 years in the industry.
Jim loved to fish and much of his spare time was spent fishing with family and friends. He owned several boats, including the "Sweet Pea," which he kept at a marina near the mouth of the Columbia for regular deep-sea fishing trips. After retirement, Jim and Eileen traveled overseas, including two trips to Europe, two trips to South America and one trip to Japan and the Orient. They also bought an RV and they traveled extensively throughout the Western U.S. They were very active in the Bounders RV Club and remained members even after they sold their RV. After spending a few winters in Arizona in their RV, they purchased a manufactured home in Rock Shadows, a park in Apache Junction, where they spent their winters for nearly 20 years. Jim helped start a computer club and a digital camera club at Rock Shadows and he was a frequent instructor in weekly classes. He was an avid card player and he was always up for a game with family or friends. He also enjoyed playing games and watching movies, particularly with his children and grandchildren.
Jim is preceded in death by his brother Dean and his sister Frances. He is survived by his wife Eileen; his children Arthur, Douglas and Sandra; thirteen grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
