Clark Kerr Henry
Clark Kerr Henry of Hillsboro (previously Metzger), Oregon, passed away at age 83 on April 21, 2019, In Hillsboro, Oregon.
Clark was born on April 23, 1935 in Spokane, Washington to the late Genieve K. (Kerr) Henry and the late Ernest Edson Henry. He spent his first 14 years there before moving to Seattle where he graduated from Lakeside High School. He served in the US Army, one year of which he was in Germany coaching Army boxing and soccer teams to win the 5th Army Championship. He was also a member of a German fencing club. After the military Clark received his BA degree in Recreation at Washington State University and his master's degree in physical education. During his work career, Clark was employed at the Federal Reserve Bank, Portland General Electric, and as a teacher in Portland Public Schools. He was a Clackamas County appraiser; later an appraiser for Multnomah County until he retired in 1993.
Clark was first married to Geraldine Henry and they had two sons. They were divorced in 1966. He married Marjorie Ruth (Recknagle) Burgess in 1973.
Clark enjoyed gymnastics, cross country ski racing, boxing and was a rifle team member for ten years, winning a National Championship. He was an avid bicycle racer, keeping in shape by riding at least 40 miles a day on his bike or a stationary bike. He also rode a unicycle several miles at a time. Clark also pursued scuba diving and motorcycle touring. His other passion was breeding and raising Pembroke Welsh Corgi dogs. He enjoyed RV traveling and volunteering at the Hoyt Arboretum and at Hayhurst School tutoring students with reading through the SMART program.
Clark is survived by his sons, David Henry and Michael (Karen) Henry; his (step)children Sandra Dean, Sheila (Kirk) St. Clair, Jerry (Katy) Burgess, and Gary (Maria) Burgess; two grandsons (children of Michael & Karen Henry); (step) grandchildren, Matt Botten, Tracy (Mike) Brunais, Jennifer (Gordon) McInturff, Laura (Everett) Marriott, Brenda (Dwight) Arms, Kimberly Burgess, Kelsey Burgess, and Sheerena (David) Johnston; 14 (step)great-grandchildren; one (step)greatgreat-grandson; and a brother William (Virginia) Henry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Genieve K. and Ernest Edson Henry; and by his wife, Marjorie.
Family and friends are welcome to attend a memorial service on Saturday, September 7, 2019 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Old Town Church, Forest Grove, 2224 15th Avenue, Forest Gove, Oregon 97116.
