Mike was born January 13, 1937 in Chehalis, WA to Clarence and Patricia Costello Hatfield. He grew up in Oregon City, OR, where he attended Oregon City High School and served as student body president. After high school, Mike enrolled at Portland State University and later enlisted in the Army Security Agency.

While stationed in Hawaii, he met his future wife, Jo (Williamson) Hatfield, on a blind date arranged by friends. They married and lived on Oahu, later settling in Lake Oswego, OR. Mike worked in marketing for credit unions for many years before retiring in June of 2020. He coached 'little guy' football, was president of the Jaycees, and served for years as a member and later president of the Tigard Breakfast Rotary. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, golf, camping, and trips to Cannon Beach.

Mike is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jo; his daughters Victoria ( David) Warneking and Patricia (Gary) Ferreira; four grandchildren Tara (Brett) Arnold, Lauren Henkelman, Mollie Henkelman, and Austin Hatfield; and two great-grandchildren, Paige and Brooks Arnold. He is also survived by brothers John, Dennis (Diane) and Terry.
