Elroy Clarence Knutson
Elroy Clarence Knutson peacefully went to be with Jesus on December 30, 2020, at the age of 85, with his family by his side. Elroy was born April 8, 1935 to Clarence and Marian Knutson in Moorhead, Minnesota. At the age of four his family moved to Canby, Oregon, where Elroy would later graduate from Canby High School. It was there he met the love of his life Beverly Bremer, in 1951. They were married in 1956 and enjoyed 64 years of marriage.
Elroy was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He loved people and he loved Jesus. His smile lit up the room when he saw you, he loved, shared & supported. His passion was to share all that he had and all that he loved with the many, many people he loved and cared for. He never knew a stranger, was a friend to all, he shared anything and everything he had; his home, his car, his boat, his last dollar, his McDonald's chocolate chip frappe, his RV. He shared his time. He was the master of 15 minute visits that made you feel like the most important person in the world and his best friend; then he'd be off on a mission to the next person to bring encouragement. He was bold and walked where angels feared to tread. He lived in the moment; you never knew what he might do or say that would shock and surprise.
Elroy worked in bridge construction then in sales and delivery at 7up Bottling Company in Oregon City before starting his career in insurance. He was a partner in an insurance business in Canby that was later sold to Oliver Insurance. He then worked in Real Estate for the remainder of his career. Elroy served in the Army National Guard, was a volunteer fireman for the Canby Fire Department, and was member of the Canby Kiwanis. He was greatly impacted by The Full Gospel Businessmen's Ministry and was an influential leader at Canby Foursquare Church for over 30 years. He loved golf, real estate, hunting, fishing, and traveling. The last five years of his life he resided at Countryside Living in Canby and was well cared for by their loving staff who his family is so grateful for.
Elroy never took the grace and salvation of Jesus for granted. He was filled with gratitude for the redemptive mercy and love of God, that miraculously transformed his life over 40 years ago. He was the fierce protector, lover and enjoyer of his family. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the joys of his life. But MOST of all he loved spending the last 69 years with his wife, Beverly, AND sharing the love of Jesus Christ with others. His often used lines, "Do you know Jesus? Do you want to know him?", were said many times even before hello. Elroy's faith was well known and was a blessing to countless people.
Elroy has left such a legacy, such an imprint on our family that words cannot fully express. When he found out he may have Alzheimer's he said, "If I have that oldtimers I just trust the Lord." He remained joyful and kind until the end. Our lives will never be the same without Elroy, He always brought the fun with him, whether he was at work or at play. He left us in this unprecedented year from the long goodbye of Alzheimer's but now is experiencing what he had always longed for; no longer seeing through a glass darkly but with perfect 2020 vision Elroy is with Him face to face. Thank you, Elroy, Dad and Grandpa for loving us and Jesus all so well. You are so loved and greatly missed!!
Elroy is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Delores Skreen, his brothers Duwayne and Gordon Knutson, his infant son Brian Knutson (in 1963), and his grandson Chad Sprague. He leaves behind his wife Beverly Knutson, daughter and son-in-law Lori and Doug Sprague, his five grandchildren and their spouses: Kati (John) Gault, Joel (Chelsea) Sprague, Stephanie (Ben) Hartwig, Danny (Heather) Sprague and Blake (Roree) Sprague, 11 great-grandchildren, his sisters Joann Knutson and Yvonne Hines as well as many beloved in-laws, nieces and nephews.
