Eileen Joy Demert
The world lost a glittering ray of sunshine on January 6, 2021, with the passing of Joy Demert of Lake Oswego, OR, after a long illness.
Joy was born Eileen Joy Radcliff in Dallas, OR, on Feb 26, 1936 to parents Harvey and Esther Radcliff. She attended elementary and high school in Corvallis. Joy pursued a long and successful career as an interior designer for Ethan Allen in Lake Oswego and Fishel's Furniture in Portland. Earlier careers were as a fashion model and manager of dress shops in the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Honolulu. Blessed with a dazzling smile and sparkling personality, Joy was renowned for bringing exquisite taste and beauty everywhere she went.
Joy married David Demert, who was then an officer in the US Air Force, on July 6, 1964 in Corvallis, OR. After Dave's discharge they settled in Lake Oswego. Joy and Dave remained deeply in love and inseparable for the next 56 years, enjoying their children and grandchildren and trips to the beach, Sunriver and Palm Desert. No holiday or birthday ever passed without an enjoyable family dinner gathering featuring Joy's entertaining, commentary and their gourmet cooking.
Joy is survived by her beloved David; her daughter Debra Byrne (Greg) of Tucson, AZ, sons Brian Demert (Mary) of Vancouver, WA, Ken Cook (Jennifer) of Pahrump, NV, and special "son" Jeremy Lloyd (Pat) of Portland. She also is survived by a sister, Yvonne Borgard of Marana, AZ; and grandsons Galen Cook of Sandy and Cole Demert, of Los Angeles.
A celebration of Joy's life is planned for sometime after the pandemic. Remembrances may be sent to Alzheimer's Association (ALZ.com).
