Gary Chamberlain passed away Jan. 29, 2021 in North Carolina with his wife Karen by his side.
Gary was born November 20, 1946 in Vancouver, WA to Joe and Arlene Chamberlain. The growing family spent their early years in Nyssa before moving to Tigard, where Gary graduated from high school in 1965.
For heroism in combat during the Vietnam War, Gary was awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart by the US Army.
He primarily worked in the HVAC industry, owning his own business for many years. Core passions included running, cycling, and swimming, and he competed in marathons, biathlons, and triathlons. He and Karen trekked across the US on a tandem bike. Gary loved striking up conversations with strangers wherever he went, and he was passionate about building community pride around trash clean-up efforts. He developed clean-up programs in Arizona and coordinated the North Carolina Litter-Free Coalition from his home in Murphy, NC.
In addition to his wife, Gary is survived by his children: Todd, Amy, and Beau Chamberlain. He is also survived by siblings Bill, Mary, John and Jean. He is proceeded in death by his parents and sister, JoAnn.
