SUBMITTED PHOTO - Delores Hooker Delores "Ditter" Hooker, a longtime resident of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2021, at the age of 95, with family by her side. Delores was born on May 19, 1925 in Estelline, South Dakota to Ernie and Minnie (Brandt) Eisnach, the youngest of four children.

At eighteen, she met Tom Hooker, on an arranged date to go pheasant hunting, which began a courtship leading to marriage and four children, Carol, Georgia "Jo", Richard, and Michael. The young couple owned a small café and later operated a downtown pool hall. In the 1950's the family moved to Newberg, Oregon to seek new opportunities. Delores worked as an engineering assistant at Tektronix, a pioneering electronics equipment company. Years later she opened a fabric store, "Dit's Yardage". Newberg was home to close relatives, so there were many family gatherings and caravan drives to the coast.

After her husband passed away, she married Lester Fricke, establishing a home in Aloha, Oregon. In 2002 following the death of Lester, Delores moved to Las Vegas to be with two of her children, an experience that offered her another new start at the age of 77. She enjoyed the city's unique history and culture, becoming a Red Hat Lady, regularly attending First Friday festivals and other arts events. She met Lloyd Pennock, who became a wonderful companion, and they spent many happy years together until his passing.

Throughout her life Delores was active; she played women's softball, went hunting, bowled competitively, enjoyed power walking, was a skilled caller for square dancing, performed as a clown in town parades, hosted pinochle parties and backyard volleyball games. She was a cancer survivor, and along with her daughters, she participated in many Race for the Cure events.

Survivors include daughter, Carol Fox, of Las Vegas; sons, Richard Hooker of Las Vegas, and Michael Hooker (Jeanne Norgaard-Tramm) of Asheville, N.C.; son-in-law, Denny Paola; six grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by daughter, Georgia Paola.

The family will host a celebration of life for Delores in Las Vegas later this year. In remembrance, contributions may be made to Homeward Bound, E Flamingo Road, Suite 3, Las Vegas, NV 89121 homewardboundcats.org SUBMITTED PHOTO - Delores Hooker
