SUBMITTED PHOTO - Nancy StevensNancy was 97. A civic activist, she organized and lobbied for change at a time when women's opportunities were severely constrained. Her efforts included having a footbridge built to Robert Gray School, preserving the Pittock Mansion, adding street trees downtown, fundraising for the Parry Center, improving Portland's air quality, limiting state campaign spending, stopping the Mt. Hood Freeway, cowriting a City Club report on light rail, landscaping a traffic circle near Hillsdale, holding Christmas parties for elderly residents at the St. Francis Hotel, and funding a homeless shelter in Newberg.

She grew up in Irvington and spent summers at Blue Lake looking for turtles. She was happily married to husband Rod for 60 years and is survived by 17 family members. To read more and leave comment, see her obituary at https://everloved.com/life-of/nancy-stevens.
