Hendrika van der Veen
Henny was born in Zutphen, Holland. Like so many in her generation, she experienced the Great Depression and WWII. During the war her family worked with the Dutch Underground, and her fiance was killed by the Nazis.
After the war she met a handsome Dutch Green Beret who would be the love of her life. They married in 1948 before Rouke Sr. went to the Indonesian War. Their first son, Rouke Jr. came in 1951.
In 1957 the family immigrated to Portland, and started their new life as Americans. Ron was born in 1958, and Patty in 1960.
Henny was the glue that held the family together, and she was by Rouke's side until he passed away in 2016. Mom is with Rouke again, but had to say goodbye to the family that adored her on May 26th.
