Luella (Lu) Lewis
Luella (Lu) Lewis passed away surrounded by her family at the age of 91 on September 29, 2018.
She was born in 1926 in Chicago, Illinois to Olga and Glenn Gregg.
When Lu was 14, the Greggs moved to Portland where she attended Roosevelt High. Upon graduation she attended Oregon State University and later worked as a telephone operator in San Francisco.
After many years as a homemaker, Lu worked as the principal's secretary at Clarendon Elementary in North Portland. Her love of art inspired her to volunteer at the Portland Art Museum, which led to her working in the Museum gift shop on weekends.
After retiring from her two jobs, Lu volunteered with Friends of Tryon Creek and helped raise her grandchildren. Her greatest joy was spending time with her beloved grandchildren. She also enjoyed painting, knitting, reading, gardening, going to the beach and spending time with her friends and family.
Lu is survived by her sister Genevieve Sybrant; brother Darrell Sanders; her children Dana Lewis, Sara Bachenberg (Jay), Amy Gibbs (Mark), Gregg Lewis (Cinda Kozawa); her six grandchildren Elle Newkirk, Sharada Rodriguez, Jeff and Elise Bachenberg, Grace and Matthew Gibbs; her granddog Myka Lewis; and five great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by granddog Bruce Lewis.
In lieu of flowers please donate to Friends of Tryon Creek or DoveLewis Animal Hospital.
