Fay Arlene Wicklund was born in Portland, Oregon on November 15, 1927 to Archie and Margaret Edelman. She had an older sister, Colleen Meyer and a younger sister Edna Hall. After the death of Archie in a car accident, Margaret married John Snyder who adopted and raised the three girls.

Besides raising a family and supervising the berry fields, Arlene worked as a waitress. She was an exceptional bowler and participated for over 50 years in monthly pinochle games with an amazing group of neighbors and friends.
