Delwin Curtis McElhany
Delwin was born in Watertown, South Dakota to Donald and Emma McElhany. He was the oldest of seven children. His family moved to Springfield, Oregon in 1951. He graduated from Springfield High in 1959. Delwin moved to Portland in 1962, after serving in the US Navy. He married Viva Wolf in 1965.
Delwin worked many years as a records clerk for Pacific Corp; retiring in 1990. He later worked several years for David Douglas School District as a custodian. After retiring, he volunteered at his church cleaning and working on special projects.
Delwin had a passion for cars, especially Chevys, for many years he did all the maintenance and repairs on the family car. He enjoyed camping with the family at many of the beautiful state parks in Oregon. Photography was another hobby of his. He also enjoyed bicycling, until health issues made it too difficult. He participated in many organized rides including the Seattle to Portland ride, and Cycle Oregon.
Delwin is survived by his wife Viva, his daughters Morganna (Norine) and Alice, his brothers Harland (Marion), Earl (Christina), Gary (Nancy), Roger, and sister Judy Williams, as well as many nieces and nephews. His sister Connie Harris preceded him in death.
Delwin passed away with his wife at his side, from the effects of Parkinson's disease and a recent stroke. A memorial service will be held at Hinson Baptist Church, 1137 SE 20th Ave., Portland, OR at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 26. Please visit www.mtsfh.com to share memories of Delwin.
