Timothy Russell McKnight
Timothy Russell McKnight went home to his Lord on September 24, 2018 after a life well lived. He was born to Ila Hewitt and Thomas McKnight in Elko, Nevada on October 16, 1941. He spent part of his youth ranching in Elko and part working on his grandparent's dairy farm in Colton, Oregon where he graduated from high school in 1960 with honors in horsing around and a big grin.
He joined the U.S. Navy immediately after graduation and spent four years aboard the USS Kemper County and USS El Dorado, where he learned electronics. After leaving the Navy, he went to Seattle Polytechnic and then was employed by Cascade Corp. in Portland, Oregon.
Tim married his best friend's sister, Jaynette Gilleran, in 1967. She ignored the fact that he required that she push a peanut around with her nose during freshman initiation, in favor of his innate goodness. His daughter Shannon was born in 1967 and daughter Lara in 1971. He was a protective and supportive father and totally involved in their lives, teaching and watching their growth with pride.
He moved his family back to Elko in 1972 and returned to Oregon in 1980 where he retired from Stayton Coop Telephone Company in 2006. In 2015, he moved to Carson City, Nevada to be near his children.
Tim is survived by his wife Jaynette of Carson City, Nevada; his daughters, Shannon of Washoe Valley, Nevada and Lara of Carson City; brother-in-law, Leo Gilleran of Union, Oregon; sister-in law, Lynette Doane of Carson City; niece, Angela Gilleran of Portland, Oregon; nephew, Darin Crist of Wilsonville, Oregon, and his extended family in Elko. He was laid to rest on September 29, 2018 in Elko City Cemetery, followed by a family reception.
Please join the family as they celebrate Tim's life on June 15, 2019 at 2:00 PM in the Parish Hall of Immaculate Conception church, 1077 N. 6th Avenue, Stayton, Oregon.
