Vivian Jordis Scheans Née Whalen
Vivian Jordis Whalen was born and raised in the Detroit, Michigan area. She was married to Daniel Joseph Scheans until his death due to lymphoma in 1995.
Vivian was an avid botanist who traveled to Central and South America with the Gesneriad Research Foundation to find new species, one of which was named for her.
Vivian was a talented knitter and weaver, exhibiting and selling her scarves and shawls as a member of the Hand Weavers Guild and LOCAL 14.
Vivian was devoted to human rights and volunteerism including the NAACP, Lake Grove City Council, Girl Scouts, and the Lake Oswego Library Booktique.
She would want it mentioned that she was one of the selftitled Neighbors from Hell that helped save Canal Acres natural area from development.
Vivian is survived by her four children: Carol, Patricia, Suzanne, Sean; five grandchildren: Eden Scheans, Connor Martin, Libby Martin, Keeva Boyle, Nicolas Scheans, and great-grandchild, River Scheans Byram.
