Amy Lynne (Walker) Swalko
Amy Lynne (Walker) Swalko was born Feb. 13, 1955, in Richland, Washington, to Robert J. and Donna M. (Vogt) Walker. She died peacefully at home on July 19, 2020. Amy was diagnosed 13 years ago with cancer. She persevered through many surgeries and recurrences, but she never let cancer define her life; she was a model of courage, and an inspiration to all who loved her.
Amy attended school in Gladstone, and graduated from high school there in 1973. She enjoyed a career with the phone company in her 20's, where she met her future husband, Dan.
They were married Aug. 16, 1980. Amy was a devoted wife and mom, and her four children were the pride of her life: Anna (Nick) Larrison, Laura (Danny) Hanes, Kristopher (Aubree) Swalko and Alexander. She was also the best grandma ever to Jack, Avery, Mae and Hattie. Amy loved gardening, cooking and celebrating with family. She was known for her strong faith, and her goal to "make a new friend each day" was encouraging to those around her.
Along with Dan and her kids and grandkids, Amy is survived by her father; parents-in-law, Jack and Gloria Swalko; siblings, Rob Walker, Jim Walker (Rebecca) and Erin Foxworthy (Forrest); several nieces and nephews, and by a large family, including many cousins.
The family would like to thank the professional and support staff at the Providence Cancer Institute - Franz Clinic, and the OHSU Head/Neck Cancer unit at the Knight Cancer Institute for their excellent care. Please consider donations to those cancer institutes, or to the Gladstone Christian Church, in Amy's memory.
A memorial is planned for Sunday, Aug. 16; details to follow.
