George Clayton Douglass, 73 of Canby passed on to his heavenly home the evening of October 22, 2020.
George was born in Oregon City, Oregon to Richard and Evelyn Douglass. He was the oldest of four children. At 8 years old he started his first small business - raising meat rabbits.
He graduated from Oregon City High in 1965, then attended PSU. His first accounting job was at Crown Zellerbach. Later, he worked for Kent & Snow CPA's of Oregon City and began studying for his CPA exam.
In September 1973 George married his wife of 47 years, Donna Asche, of West Linn. They moved to Canby in 1977 and he opened his accounting practice in Canby as the first CPA office in town.
Volunteerism was important to George. Over the years he served his local and national church denomination on many boards; was a Lifetime Member of Canby Kiwanis and especially supported the Food & Toy drive, Kiddie Capers Parade and Thrift Shop; was treasurer of Canby Vietnam Era Memorial Board when the helicopter came to town; was a member of Chamber of Commerce for many years; and was a member of Gideon's. In his free time, he loved to read, travel, be outdoors, and talk about his outdoor adventures.
More important than his volunteering or hobbies was his faith in Jesus Christ. He attended Oregon City Evangelical Church all his 73 years, became it's Finance Chairman at age 20, serving in that capacity until 2018. He was the longest attending member of the church. He lived his life by example, not words alone. George was a kind, compassionate, unassuming man of integrity. His word and his handshake were good enough and he expected the same of others. He didn't put on airs and was very much a "what you see is what you get" kind of man who will be greatly missed.
George is survived by his wife, Donna; daughters Debbie Griffin, Nikki Harmon, and Jody Newland (Tim), son Eric Douglass; siblings Jane (Ron) Keller, David (Diane) Douglass, Judy Douglass; and 8 grandchildren.
