MORE STORIES

April 7, 1922 - January 24, 2021. Ruth Arlene (Jole) Reese, 98, of Forest Grove, died Sunday, January 24.

Ruth Reese

Ruth was born on the family farm near Merrill, Wisconsin, on April 7, 1922, the third child of Maurice and Inga Nelson Jole. She moved with her family to Oregon in 1936, graduating from Lafayette High School in 1940. She attended Capital Business College in Salem and worked for Portland General Electric Company during world War II. Ruth married Veryle Morton in 1945 and moved to Forest Grove in 1951 with their two children. They divorced in 1959 and Ruth began working at the Hillsboro Clinic. In 1961, she married John Reese, who died in 1962. Ruth continued raising her two children while working at the Hillsboro Clinic and retired there as office manager in 1986. She then worked part-time in accounting at Woodfold Manufacturing in Forest Grove until 2002.

Ruth was a member of the Forest Grove United Methodist Church. She enjoyed volunteering and was a Red Cross Nurse's Aide during World War II. Ruth was also active in the Pacific Progress Club in Forest Grove, and volunteered with Campfire, Meals on Wheels, and the SMART Reading program. She enjoyed her family, hiking, wildflowers, reading, volkswalking, postcard collecting, and her cat. Ruth was a life-long letter writer and journaler. She loved to travel, and her journey to her family's homeland of Norway in 1980 was the fulfillment of a lifelong dream.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Hazel Grabner, and her brothers Harold and Donald Jole. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Karen (Morton) Eddings and Gary Eddings; her son and daughter-in-law, Ken Morton and Dolly Larkin; her granddaughter, Kathryn (Eddings) and husband Russell Sherrell; her granddaughter, Jennifer (Eddings) McCarl and partner Joe Wyatt and great-granddaughter Jordan McCarl. Also surviving are great-granddaughter, Jamie McCarl and partner Mark Adlawan; great-great grandchildren Bayani Adlawan, Rowan and Mia Rose McCarl-Adlawan plus many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family suggests that remembrances may be made to the Forest Grove United Methodist Church, the Friends of Fernhill Wetlands, or the Forest Grove Library.
