Eleanor Beatrice Dirks
Eleanor Dirks passed away on March 10, 2019 at her home in Gresham surrounded by her family, after a long battle with cancer. She was born on January 10, 1930 in Fenwood, Saskatchewan as the fourth child of twelve born to Walter
and Lydia Wilkie. In 1948, the family moved to Chilliwack, BC where she was involved in the music program at church. It was there she met the love of her life William (Bill) Dirks and they began singing together at church as well as a local radio broadcast. Ellie and Bill were married on July 10, 1954 and together they had four daughters. She did accounting work much of her adult life. She was known as a hard worker and developed many special friendships during her working years, finally retiring at age 76. After her retirement, she had more time to spend with her growing family. It gave her great joy to prepare delicious meals and attend her grandkids and great-grandkids games and events. Ellie served the Lord faithfully all her life. She was an incredibly selfless person and was always the first to offer help or support when needed. To know her was to love her. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Ellie is survived by her husband of 64 years, Bill; daughters Glenda (Gregg) Strech; Donna (Carl) Niemetschek; Pamela (John) Halvorson; Laura (Aaron) Hall; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A memorial service is planned for April 6 at 2pm at Wood Village Baptist Church, at 23601 NE Arata Rd, Wood Village, OR.
