A celebration of life for Irene Brown will be held on May 11, at Gresham Memorial Chapel.

A celebration of life for former East county resident Irene Brown will be held at 2p.m., Saturday, May 11, at Gresham Memorial Chapel.

Irene was born in Hay Springs, Nebraska to John and Olga Phillips. She was raised and educated in Nebraska, graduating from a teachers college with Chadron. On July 3, 1940 in Sheridan, WY, Irene married George Brown.COURTESY PHOTO -  Irene May Brown

In 1942 Irene moved to Portland where she worked in the ship yards, before teaching at a country school house. She continued her education at Portland State receiving Bachelor in Education. Later she taught second grade at Sunset Valley and Lynch View elementary, retiring in 1982.

Irene enjoyed fishing, dancing, camping, reading and playing the piano. She had been a member of the Freight Liner Old Timers club.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband in April of 2005. Survivors include children; Elaine Fultz, Charlot Ehler and Jack Brown, 10 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren.

The family suggest contributions to Hay Springs Ambulance Fund.
