Ruth Ellen Wand Casciato
Born May 9, 1945 to the Corbett, Oregon, pioneer family of Ignatius B. Wand and Alice Ruth Suhr Wand, she was the fourth child of eight siblings. She was raised in the hills between Troutdale and Corbett in the Pleasant View area in Eastern Multnomah County. She attended Corbett Grade School, St. Henry Grade School, and graduated from Marycrest High School in Portland, Oregon.
Growing up, Ruth was a ten-year 4H club member in clothing, sewing, and style revue. At age fourteen, she made a red wool skirt, entered it in the "McCall Sewing Pattern /The Grange contest" and won a national award. Ruth went on to pursue a career in fine arts; painting, drawing, and watercolors, with fabric and fiber being her favorite creative mediums.
Married for 54 years, she is survived by her loving husband, Gene Edmond Casciato, (Vancouver, WA.); her daughters, Theresa Coy (Shannon) and Joan Carpenter (Mark); and grandchildren, Dane, Ellen, Lawson, Bradon, and Lillian Coy and Maria and Thomas Carpenter. She is also survived by her brothers, Jerome, Richard, and David Wand; and sisters, Helen, Patricia, and Dorothy Wand, and Carolyn Eslick as well as numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Ruth's parents are deceased.
A Memorial Service for Ruth will be held at the Fairway Village Ballroom, 15509 S. E. Fernwood Dr. Vancouver, Washington 98683 on December 27, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. The family would like donations to Seattle Children's Hospital, 4800 Sand Point Way N. E., Seattle, Washington 98105.
