Joan Charlene Stone
Joan Charlene Stone passed away July 5, 2020 at home
with her family surrounding her, she was 93. Joan was
born May 14, 1927 in Boring, Oregon. She grew up there,
attending Boring Grade and Gresham High schools. Joan
was an adventurous woman.
She formed a hiking group in Gresham, climbed, skied Mt.
Hood, and went on many road trips with her girlfriends (Joan always the driver).
Joan worked at Walrad Insurance in Gresham,
where she eventually became a part owner. In June
1951, Joan met Bill Stone, after dating for 'almost'
three weeks and having so much fun, Joan became
engaged and married Bill on September 22, 1951.
Joan and Bill lived in Gresham until 1963 when
they moved out to Boring to raise their children
on a farm. Joan worked the farm raising sheep,
cattle, harvesting filberts, and walnuts along with
her husband and four children. Joan was also, the
bookkeeper for her husband's Gresham dental
practice. Joan shared many adventures with her
husband and family, including waterskiing, flying,
fishing, riding horses, and many road trips. Joan was
very involved with her husband's sport of aerobatic
flying and become a respected National Judge.
Joan was a curious person, who loved to learn and
lived life fully. She will be forever loved and missed.
Joan is survived by her husband, William E. Stone,
her four children; Debbie Bernhardt, Patti Stone,
Judy Passmore and William Stone, Jr.; and three
