Janet K. Whalen
Janet Kathleen Whalen, 90 of Gresham OR, passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2020. She was born on April 21, 1930 in Smith Center, Kansas to Elmer and Alta Snow and raduated from Sandy High School in 1948. Janet married
William Newell Whalen on June 30, 1950 in Kelso, ashington and celebrated their 70th Anniversary
just a couple weeks ago.
Janet was known as "The Best Cake Decorator in the
Pacific Northwest" by many. She worked in the area at
Foster Road Bakery, Three Boys Market and Albertson's
for many years, also working with Luck's Corporation in
sales, before operating BJ's Dip N Dunk in Clatskanie,
Oregon from 1984 to 1996. Janet and William were
charter members of Mountain View Christian Church.
She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening (especially
her roses) and was an animal lover.
Janet is survived by her husband William Whalen
of Gresham OR; sons Steven Whalen (Cindy) of
Vancouver WA, Gary Whalen of San Diego CA, Peter
Whalen (Linda) of Delta BC Canada and Ken Whalen
(Rabecca) of Wood Village OR; Nine grandchildren
and Four great grandchildren. Janet was preceded by
grandsons Jesse and Dustin Whalen and brothers Roy
& Richard Snow.
A Private Celebration due to Covid-19 restrictions
of Janet's Life will be held at 4:00pm on Monday, July
27, 2020 at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, 520 W.
Powell Blvd in Gresham, Oregon with Live-Streaming
available on the funeral home Facebook page for those
that cannot attend. Private interment will take place
at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.
