Edward (Tom) Martin Thompson
Edward (Tom) Martin Thompson, 93, resident of the Bethany community passed away on Thursday afternoon, August 22, 2019 at his home. Services will be held from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. September 7, 2019 at Laurel Parc, 15850 N.W. Central Drive in Portland.
Edward (Tom) was born on August 9, 1926 in Tacoma, Washington. He was the son of Edward C. and Dorthy (Martin) Thompson. He moved around a lot when he was a child and started working at a young age in the woods as a lumberjack and log truck driver.
He served his country in the Army Coast Artillery Corps in Hawaii during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1946.
He met his wife, Merry Bowers, through mutual friends. They soon began dating and they were married on August 29, 1952 in Vancouver. They made their home in Beaverton.
Edward (Tom) was a Purchasing Agent for Multnomah Plywood Co-op most of his life until he retired in 1991.
He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, rafting and traveling. Merry and Edward (Tom) owned a beach house in Rockaway Beach, Oregon. They loved entertaining guests and taking walks on the beach. Edward (Tom) also had a knack for fixing things around the house, telling stories and going for long drives.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife; Merry and his parents.
He is survived by his one child; Cynthia Thompson of Montana, and his two grandchildren; Marshall Martinez of Forest Grove and Kristi Landwehr of Spokane, WA.
