Lester Thomas Heisler, 97, a resident of the Forest Grove community, died Thursday morning, March 4, 2021, at OHSU Tuality Community Hospital in Hillsboro.
Lester was born November 14, 1923 in Forest Grove, Oregon to Thomas Heisler and Blanche Pizer Heisler. He grew up in Gales Creek and attended Forest Grove High School until he quit to join the Coast Guard during WW II.
Lester served in the Coast Guard, at the US Mint in San Francisco. He came home on leave to marry Erma Josephine McRobert on March 7th, 1944, in the Old Church in Gales Creek.
Lester worked for the Oregon Department of Forestry for many years, most of it in the Tillamook Burn area. He was very involved in the Forest Grove American Legion. He and his wife were lifelong members of the Forest Grove United Methodist Church. As Les grew older, he gave up fishing and hunting, but still loved playing cards, especially pinochle. He, and his sense of humor, will be missed by all who knew him.
Lester is survived by his wife, Erma; their son, Ron and his sister Nancy and her husband, Don Barnes.
Lester was preceded in death by both parents and his brother, Donald.
Due to Covid, a celebration of life will be held at a later date, when it is safe for everyone to attend.
