Robert 'Jack' Burnard
Robert "Jack" Burnard, 79, died at OHSU Hospital in Portland on July 21, 2021. Jack was born in Forest Grove on April 18, 1942, to Carl and Dorsey (Posz) Burnard. He graduated from Forest Grove High School in 1960 before attending Williamette University where he received a B.S. in Chemistry. Jack then went to Cornell University in New York where he received a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry. After Cornell, he returned to Oregon State University where he did research and taught courses in Chemistry. In 1975, Jack returned to the family business to help his father at Forest Grove Lumber Company. Jack remained with the company until he retired in 2010. Throughout his education and career Jack received recognition for his hard work, community service, and success, including receiving the 2006 Lumberman of the Year award from the Portland Wholesale Lumber Association. He was a member of the Forest Grove Rotary Club and hosted several Rotary exchange students. Jack loved fishing, bird watching, vacationing to his favorite spots in Oregon and Hawaii, watching sports and spending time with his loved ones. Jack is survived by his wife of 28 years, Anne Burnard; his sons, Mike Burnard of Koper, Slovenia; Bill Burnard (Bri Wells) of Hillsboro, Oregon; and Clayton Cieloha (Shella Lake) of Vernonia, Oregon; three grandsons; his sister, Kathy Warner and brothers Tom and Dave Burnard.
