Brian John Peters
Brian John Peters, 61, resident of the Banks community passed away on August 13, 2021 at his home.
Brian was born on January 16, 1960 in Portland, OR. He was the oldest of four children born to Merle and Marilyn (Ireland) Peters. Brian was raised on the family dairy farm off of Greenville Rd. He attended St Francis Catholic Grade School and Banks High School graduating with the Class of 1978. He was a triathlete and he was the junior Olympic decathlon champion his senior year. He later coached and mentored junior high and high school athletes as they pursued their own athletic and academic goals. Brian later studied animal sciences at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in California.
After finishing his university studies, Brian returned to the Banks area to pursue farming. Later he became the owner of his own logging and excavation company: Brian Peters Logging Inc.
In the year 2000, Brian met Marinda López. They married nearly four years later on March 6, 2004 in St. Peters church on the Big Island of Hawaii. The couple had two sons born the same day three years and twenty minutes apart, a fact that gave Brian much pride. Brian felt blessed to be able to raise his boys on the family farm, imparting them life lessons and the theory of Murphy's Law. On the farm they learned important skills such how to fix most anything with a bit of baling twine
Brian's passion for athletics continued throughout his life. He was an avid golfer. Since 2000 he coached golf for Banks High School and later Warner Pacific College. Most recently he was the head golf coach for Forest High School. Brian helped construct the nation's second known driving range on a high school campus in 2020 at Forest Grove High.
Brian was known for his generosity, humor, and larger than life personality. He never met a stranger. He considered himself "Uncle Brian" not only to his many nieces and nephews, but also to the children, both young and old, of his large network of friends.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marinda; two teenage sons, Liam and Sean; his parents, Merle and Marilyn Peters of Forest Grove; his siblings, Steven Peters of Forest Grove, Michelle and Jim Thomas of Glenwood and Shannon Peters of Forest Grove.
A rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, August 27 at St. Francis in Roy, OR followed by a Celebration of Life on the family farm.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for contributions to his sons' college funds. Contact Duyck & Vandehey Funeral Home in Forest Grove at www.dvfuneralhome.com for more information.
