Evelyn Klann Menges
Longtime Madras resident Evelyn Klann Menges, 86, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2019. Evelyn finished her life at the Northridge Assisted Living Facility in Medford. She was a "Depression baby," born Feb. 5, 1933.
Evelyn married Warren Curtis "Curt" Menges in 1950, and the couple had three daughters — Cathy, Billie, and Linda.
Evelyn was employed for many years at the Mountain View Hospital. The staff there always appreciated her tireless work ethic and friendly and helpful personality.
Evelyn was an excellent seamstress — a skill she inherited from her mother — and passed to her daughters. Evelyn was famous within the family for a purloined recipe that became the family favorite — Red Earth cake. This moist and delicious chocolate cake recipe was used for nearly every special occasion, and her girls have kept this tradition alive. Evelyn was a doting mom and grandma and often visited the girls and their families, and even traveled to Germany when her grandson, Chris, was born.
She loved the "Borrower" books, The "Dragonriders of Pern" books by Anne McCaff rey, and word search puzzles. Evelyn had a beautiful smile and will always be remembered for her resolute and unfailing love for her family. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, and grandmother.
She is survived by her daughters, Cathy Adams of Madras, Billie Menges of La Grande, and Linda (Steven) Larson of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren, Jeremy (Catherine), Christian (Corina), Rebecca (Jamie), Sheyenne (Joshua), and Larissa; great-grandchildren Sam, and newborn Abigail; sister, Wilda (Ronald); and many nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Curt in 1996; and brothers, Harry, Maynard, Frank, Charles, and Stanley.
Evelyn's girls wish to thank Northridge and grandson, Chris, and his wife, Corina, for their excellent and loving care of her.
