Huburt Lee Phipps
Huburt Lee Phipps passed away on June 19, 2019, at the age of 82. He was born in Iowa City, Iowa, on April 13, 1937. Huburt attended school for 12 years before joining the Navy, where he received his GED. He served in the Navy from 1956-1960, on the USS Greenwich Bay Admiral ship.
Huburt, AKA "Hubie," was a diesel mechanic by trade. He worked for the Madras Garbage Service, North Unit Irrigation, and Cenex Seed Plant. He also owned and partnered with Stan Toms at Mobil Service Station.
When he wasn't fixing engines, Huburt was always tinkering on projects around the house. He loved helping out on his son-in-law's farm, feeding cattle and irrigating, and also enjoyed fishing, hunting, collecting coins, and spending time with his family. He had a heart for animals and welcomed all strays that came to his door.
He is survived by his loving wife, Pamela, of 58 1/2 years. They were married in Caldwell, Idaho, on Jan. 15, 1961. Huburt is preceded in death by his father, Huburt Merlin Phipps; mother, Pearl Elizabeth Hipp; and sister, Erma McArdle.
Huburt is lovingly remembered by his three children, Rebecca Jo Blann, Elizabeth Irena Phipps, and Rex Andrew Phipps; his seven grandchildren, Matt, Mollie, Samantha, Huburt, Colby, Brendon, and Aubree; and his three great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Jordee, and JoLynn.
The celebration of life for Huburt will be held at the Bel Air Funeral Home in Madras, June 29, at 2 p.m. His brother-in -law, Larry Sample, will be officiating. A reception will follow the service.
