Veatrice Laval Baird, loving mother and grandmother, passed away July 22, 2019, at the age of 89.
Veatrice was born in Kingston, Washington, to Gladys and Victor Sealy on March 9, 1930. She moved to Bay Center with her mom and sister, where she attended grade school and South Bend High School.
After spending four years in Colorado Springs for tuberculosis, she came back to Portland, Oregon, to be close to her mom and raise her daughter.
She went to beauty school and was a beautician for 11 years. Veatrice then moved to Astoria, and worked in canneries and then motel management. There she met Clint Lamar and they were married for 12 years. After Clint passed away, she moved to Raymond, Washington, to again be close to her mom and stepdad, who had moved to Bay Center.
Veatrice joined the Raymond Elks Lodge and was an active Lady of the Elks there. She met the love of her life, Larry Baird. They enjoyed going to jazz festivals, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. Veatrice was also a Red Hatter and loved going on trips with the Red Hat groups.
After her mom, stepdad and husband passed away, she moved to Culver to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren, and to get to know the great-grandchildren, as they grew up. She also joined the Madras Elks Lodge and the Lady Elks. Veatrice was also a member of the Red Hatters Culver Cuties group. She loved getting out with family and friends.
Veatrice is survived by her daughter, Vickie; grandchildren, Dawna Azich, and Dusty (Meggen) Ditmore; and six great-grandchildren, Brianna, Sienna, Beau, Tanner, Austin, and Mason.
She is preceded in death by her mom, Gladys; stepdad, Leonard; father, Victor; son-in-law, Jack Alley; and her husbands, Clint Lamar, and Larry Baird.
I want to thank East Cascade for their care to my mom and Partners in Care for the special care they gave to my mom. Thank you all.
