Mr. Skavlan was born in Portland, Oregon, on March 22, 1942. As a child, his family relocated to Bend, where he graduated from Bend High School in 1960. He later attended Central Oregon Community College, where he met his future wife, Linda Cunningham. They were happily married for 52 years.

Sig enjoyed hunting and fishing activities and was an active member of the local community. While working for the Forest Service in the early `60s, he was proud to be one of the first fire spotters at the Green Ridge Lookout. He served in the National Guard from 1963-1969. Sig worked at Pacific Power and Light for over 30 years, and later the Culver School District, before retiring in 2007. He was also a longtime board member of Deschutes Valley Water District and a member of the Lions Club.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; two children, Sig Skavlan IV, and Susan (Chad) Bethers; and sister, Julie Bean. He was the happy grandpa to two grandchildren, Callie and Justin.

A private family service will be held. Charitable donations can be made to the Culver Christian Church or Crook County Historical Society.
