Virginia Carlson Root, age 97, of Madras, passed away on Oct. 7, 2019. Virginia June Brooks was born June 1, 1922, in Monrovia, California, to John and Lillian Brooks. She grew up in Deer Flat, Idaho, with three brothers. Virginia graduated from Caldwell High School and completed studies at a business school in Boise.
Virginia married Art Carlson in 1941, and settled into a life of farming in Deer Flat. They moved to Madras in 1948, with their son, Norm, when irrigation came to the area. Their two daughters, Glenda and Christy, were born in Central Oregon.
Virginia was involved in church activities, garden club, 4-H clubs, golf bowling leagues, and volunteered at the Jefferson County Library. After Art passed away, she married Jack Root, and continued to live in Madras. Jack passed away in 2018.
Virginia is survived by her two brothers; three children; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by them all.
