Allen A. Struthers
Allen A. Struthers, 75, of Showlow, Arizona, passed away Dec. 30, 2019, at home. He was born April 15, 1944, in Hermiston, Oregon, to parents, Allen A. and Frances R. Struthers.
Allen went to the Sandy Grade School, graduated from Madras High School in 1962, and from Oregon State in 1966.
He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in Dec. 1966, as a Second Lt. and then attended jet pilot training at Williams AFB in Phoenix. He graduated second in his pilot training class and was transferred to Luke AFB to fly the F-100 Super Sabre. Lt. Struthers graduated at the top of his F-100 class and was assigned to RAF Wethersfield, England. Allen was promoted to Captain in Nov. 1969. He was a jet pilot in the 77th TAC FTR Squadron. and had tactical flights in seven countries throughout Europe. He also had flights to Libya, North Africa. Allen flew 161 missions in Vietnam and was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal, two Air Medals and three Distinguished Flying Crosses. Allen was the squadron weapons officer and flight leader for the 77th TAC. FTR. Squadron. He was honorably discharged in Sept. 1988.
He married Tessa Green, of Klamath Falls, in Nov. 1966, and they lived in Phoenix, Arizona, England, Germany, Tuscon, Arizona and Showlow.
After retirement, he worked for Flight Safety flying Lear jets as well as many other flying adventures. He had an L.L.C. in maintenance for private pilots.
His passion was flying and cars. Allen flew a combined 60 years military and private.
Allen is survived by his wife, Tessa; sons, Alan (Katherine) and Nick Struthers; sister, Janet (Herb) McKay; nieces, Teresa (Keith) Radcliff of Beaverton, and Tania Blair of Federal Way, Washington.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1986, and mother in 2011.
