Shirley Grant, 89, of Bend, passed away August 28, 2020. She was born December 22, 1930, to Robert and Emma White Marshall, in Gateway, Oregon. The youngest of eight children, Shirley grew up on the family ranch in Gateway. She attended the Gateway school through eighth grade. Then she lived with her grandma White in Madras and attended Madras High School, graduating in 1948.
Shirley married Bill Grant in 1951, and they settled on several acres of land east of Madras. Shirley and Bill raised four daughters and were active in local horse activities.
Shirley was a member of the Ladies Posse Auxiliary, the Madras Saddle Club and the First Baptist Church. She worked as a waitress at several local restaurants and managed the toy department at Hatfields' Department Store in Madras. Shirley enjoyed growing a large vegetable garden and was a master of many crafts: sewing, knitting, crocheting, woodworking, cross stitch and oil painting.
She also enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing. She loved spending time with close and extended family and planning get-togethers and cooking for them.
Shirley and Bill were married fifty-four years. After Bill's death in 2005, Shirley moved to Woodburn to be near her daughters. She returned to Central Oregon in 2015, and resided in Bend. Shirley was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Surviving family members include: daughters, Sandra Barney (Rick), Suzanne Lewallen, Anne Ross and Debra Ausec (Mike); grandchildren, Jennifer Rae Holton (Jon), Jeremy Lewallen (Kristin) and Ian Lewallen (Mackenzie); and great-grandsons, Liam Lewallen, Jack Lewallen and Grant Lewallen.
