Roy G. Hempel Sr.
Roy G. Hempel Sr. (Jay), 91, of Drain, Oregon, passed away July 24, 2021. He was born June 7, 1930, to parents, Paul and Ida May (Knorr) Hempel, in Baltimore, Maryland.
At age 15, he joined the Army transport. Roy served in the Navy, as a MM1 from July 1948 - July 1952, and in the Korean War March 1956 - February 1959.
Roy married Shirley (Denison) Hempel September 1, 1960, in Shelby, Montana. He was a logger, a refrigeration man, and retired from W.S. Utilities in 1992.
Roy had a love of hunting, fishing and camping. He enjoyed elk BBQs and fish fries with family and friends.
He was a member of the Madras Elks Lodge, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and Refrigeration Service Engineers Society.
Roy is survived by Roy G. Hempel Jr. (Sue) of Mt. Shasta; Mike Hempel (Debbie), Shelley Hempel, Jody (Marv) Thomas of Drain; Sharla Brimmer; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; daughters, Roxanne and Connie; son, Robert; and grandson, Robert.
A graveside service will be held August 21, at 11 a.m. at Grey Butte Cemetery with a memorial following at 12 noon at Haystack South Shore.
