Donald Joseph Scheller
Donald Joseph Scheller was born February 14, 1933 in Wadena, Minnesota to John "Joe" Scheller and Cora Scheller (Young), brother of Robert Scheller. He died September 26, 2020 surrounded by four generations of family in the home he built in Sherwood, Oregon.
Don graduated Sherwood High School class of 1950 and was one of the Merry Men in the inaugural Robin Hood Festival. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and told fond stories of Camp Irwin. In 1957, Don married Yvonne Adams, and had four children: Elaine, Philip, Dawn, and Allan.
Don was a devoted member of the Newberg Boat Club (65 years), Model A Ford Club of America (50+ years), American Legion Post 56 and St. Francis Catholic Church. He instilled in his family the value of hard work, and a love of Oregon's beaches, rivers, and lakes. Don worked for Portland Canning Company until its closure in June 1973. He was a good neighbor, apt to lend a helping hand to the last. He passed in his sleep, the Lord and the Oregon coast calling him home.
He is survived by his wife; four children; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren, a legacy of which he was most proud. A celebration of Don's life will be planned when his family andfriends can all come together in memoriam. In themeantime, drink a beer, dip your toes in the water, and hold your family close.
