Robert Kingsbury Newcomb III
After a brief illness, Bob died peacefully in his sleep. He was born in South Dakota and also lived in Minneapolis, MN before enlisting in the Army Air Corps in 1944. After the war he moved to San Diego with his mother and brother Dick and graduated from San Diego State College.
Bob married Kathleen Hayes in Berkeley in 1954 and had three children: Andrea, Nancy and Thomas and two grandsons, Chase and Cole. In 1960 Bob joined the Eugene Register Guard as a reporter. He later worked for both Southern Oregon State College and Marylhurst College as the director of news services.
He always enjoyed classical music and jazz, camping at the Oregon coast, visiting family in the Midwest and traveling to the East Coast. Bob knew by heart Abraham Lincoln's speech at Gettysburg (where we visited). He was much loved and is missed by us all.
