Bob and Marie raised their three children on a dairy farm near Cusick. During World War II, they received a farm deferment, allowing them to play a vital role in the war effort by farming and providing milk products.
Eventually they sold the farm, and Bob went to work as a lineman for the Pend Oreille Public Utility District, retiring in 1984. They then moved to Grants Pass, Ore. where they lived for almost two decades before moving to the Portland area to be closer to family. Marie passed away in 2006. They had been married for 62 years.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Emma Murphy; his wife, Ella Marie Murphy; and his three sisters, Maye Martin, June Deschand and Alice Sherwin. He is survived by Shannon Wood, and her husband Rick; Jim Murphy and his wife Linda; and Ed Murphy and his wife Dana. Bob was blessed with 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Bob Murphy will be remembered as a kind-hearted and gentle man with a wonderful smile and a keen sense of humor. He always had a positive outlook on life, and was quick to laugh and joke with others. He especially herished his family, and enjoyed spending many holidays and birthdays with them.
Bob and Marie were devoted to helping those in need, particularly by providing food through local food pantries.
