Nicholas (Nick) Gerard Wilson
Nicholas (Nick) Gerard Wilson, sole proprietor of Atlas Landscape Architecture of Tigard passed away unexpectedly in his sleep at home in Portland on Monday, April 13, 2020. He was 61.
Born second of seven kids, Nick attended St. Philip Neri Elementary School, Jesuit High School (class of 76), and University of Oregon, graduating in 1981 with a Bachelors' Degree in Landscape Architecture. In his youth Nick was a cub scout, an altar boy, an A student and enjoyed wood carving and photography. In his twenties, he designed and sold board shorts to surf shops in Southern California. After college, Nick was a missionary to Germany for Navigators World Missions. In 1987 he began work as a landscape architect with Hare Associates in San Diego, where he met his wife Suni. In 1990 he returned with Suni to Portland to work for Mayer/Reed until 1997 when he started Atlas Landscape Architecture, specializing in the design of turf athletic fields. Some of his more notable projects include, Cronin Field at Jesuit High School, The Oregon Holocaust Memorial, Portland Police Memorial, the cascading water pools at The Oregon Gardens, the Tualatin High School football turf field, and Lincoln Park Skate Park. He was still working at the time of his death.
From 1994 to 2012 Nick served the City of Tigard as Planning Commissioner and City Councilor. Nick was good-natured, kind-hearted, humble, hard-working, well- read, and a great conversationalist. He was devoted to his wife, children and grandchildren. As a believer in the saving work of Jesus Christ, Nick is now face to face with the Lord.
He is survived by his wife Suni; daughter Anissa, sons Alex and Chris, his daughter-in-law, Alex; and grandsons Grant and Trevor. He is also survived by his mother Nancy; brothers Tony and Mike, and sisters, Sharon, Diane, and Marie. He was preceded in death by his father, Don; and his sister Laurie.
