Kimberly McBride

December 18, 1967 to April 30, 2017

Kim, 49, of Wilsonville, Ore., was born in Michigan City, Ind. She married her high school sweetheart, Gregory McBride, on August 13, 1988. Kim received her associate of science in nursing from Purdue University North Central in 1992, Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Valparaiso University in 1998, and Master of Science in Nursing Education from University of Phoenix in 2011.

Kim's nursing career began in labor and delivery at Michiana Community Hospital in Mishawaka, Ind. This is where Kim, through the guidance of many physician and nurse mentors, honed her nursing skills and her compassion and caring instincts. Kim had a passion for natural birth and water birth and she began working as an assistant to a midwife.

In 2000, Kim took on a new adventure when she and her family moved to Oregon. She briefly continued her work in childbirth by working for an organization that shipped birthing tubs to women around the world. Eventually, Kim's path led her in another direction and she began working in geriatrics. She spent several years as a care manager in a long term care facility and several more with a hospice company. While Kim enjoyed working directly with her patients, she decided she could have more influence on the direction of geriatric care as a director of nursing services, which she had been doing for the past 8 years. Most recently Kim was DNS at Gateway Care & Retirement in Portland, Ore. Kim was skilled in patient care and as DNS she was in charge of all clinical operations, but her true gift was in the management of people. Just as she had been mentored, this was Kim's opportunity to act as mentor, coach and friend to countless co-workers. Kim's nursing career culminated with being named Oregon Health Care Association 2016 Nurse Leader of the Year.

In addition to her many work achievements, Kim enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking and baking. She dreamed of having her own bakery someday. Kim considered her greatest achievement to be the creation and raising of her two beautiful daughters, Katie and Becky.

Kim is survived by her husband, Greg McBride; daughter Katharine McBride and her fiancé Jared Conroy; daughter Rebecca McBride and her husband Brandon Bird; parents Robert and Betty Taylo; sisters Cari Hunnicutt and Anne Mattson, and brother Rob Taylo.

If anyone is moved to make a donation in Kim's honor, this can be made to the American Nurses Foundation, 8515 Georgia Avenue, Suite 400, Silver Spring, MD 20910, phone 301-628-5227, or by visiting
