Joan Mary Cox Purett Doney
Joan Mary Cox Pruett Doney, 93, died Monday, September 30, 2019. Joan was born July 30, 1926 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Medford, Oregon. Her family homesteaded at Wagner Creek later moving into Medford so Joan could attend school at Sacred Heart Academy. Joan attended beauty school prior to her marrying Dean William Pruett in May 1946. They divorced in 1962 at which time Joan opened her beauty shop "Joan's Smart Set". She remarried in 1973 to George William Doney, who died Sept 1993, and became a realtor.
Joan and George moved to Shady Cove in the early 80's where they continued with Doney Real Estate. She lived in the Rogue Valley until moving to Woodburn, Oregon in 1988. In Woodburn she continued with Coldwell Banker Senior Estates Homes. Joan was passionate about life and was devoted to her family and friends. Joan was very active in the Woodburn community. She swam every morning at the Senior Estates pool, was a Lions club member, volunteered at the elementary school and drove for Dial a Ride.
She was also member of the Wrinkled City Players. Survivors are Deborah Butcher and Victoria Pruett of Vancouver, Wash., John Pruett, Timothy Doney of Medford, Ore., Deana Doney of Beaverton, Ore., Michael Doney of Eagle Point, Ore.; 9 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Her son William Pruett preceded her in death Oct. 2016.
The family is celebrating Joan's life in private. Joan donated her body to the OHSU Body Donation Program. When Joan's remains are returned to the family from OHSU, she will be interred at Eagle Point National Cemetery alongside George.
